Avondale Guest House is situated on the southern side of the city just a few hundred metres from the ancient city walls. We are just a lovely 7-10 minute stroll to the city centre passing some of the attractions, restaurants and shops. You can use the medieval walls or pause at Skeldergate Bridge and take in the views along the river to the city. The city centre is mostly pedestrianised during the day making is enjoyable, safe and easy to get around.

From York Station
Arriving by train or bus couldn’t be easier with direct services available from most parts of Britain and from many of the main airports and ferry terminals. Once you get here the walk to Avondale will take around 10 – 15 minutes by just following the ancient city walls.
As you exit the railway station turn right and walk south over the bridge, keeping the city walls on your left, follow the road around and up the hill to the traffic lights. Keep walking forward and take the crossing over this busy junction (if you look to your left you will see Micklegate Bar), then continue down Nunnery Lane, staying on the pavement to the right hand side of the road (the city walls will be on your left). You will pass a couple of pubs, The Victoria Vaults and The Old Ebor. As you reach the end of Nunnery Lane turn right and walk along past the shops. Going on past the car park to your right and cross at the traffic lights where is Sainsbury’s is on the corner. Keeping Sainsbury’s to your right walk on up the hill just past the bus stop and Avondale Guest House is on your right.
